Bridging Home and School: What we want for our learners
Saturday November 19, 2016 – 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. 
Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School – 149 Berrigan Drive

 

Parents, guardians and school council members come join us on Saturday, November 19th at 8:30 a.m. as we celebrate this years Parent Conference and School Council Training Day. Participants will have the opportunity to attend three workshops focusing on everything from managing emotions to helping your child succeed. The day is designed to encourage discussion, embrace new ways of doing things and networking with your neighbours. There is no cost or fee to participate in this conference. Free parking is available behind the school.

 

Child Care
Free child care is available. Your children will be cared for by qualified and thoughtful Early Childhood Educators. The child care centre is conveniently located right next door at Berrigan Elementary School less than 200 meters from where the conference is being held. Child care is offered for children between the ages of 4-10. 

 

Child care spots are limited due to space availability. Please register by November 1st to ensure your child is enrolled in the program. Organizers have a fun-filled day planned for the children while you are attending the parent conference. Keynote Speaker
The Keynote Speaker will be OCDSB Director of Education, Dr. Jennifer Adams. Jennifer is a sought-after guest lecturer on the world stage. She will focus on how creativity and innovation lead to critical thinking and problem solving – skills the 21stcentury learner must posses to achieve academic and personal success.

 

Workshops 
Workshops will cover a variety of themes including Physical Health and Well-Being, Learning, Special Education and School Council Training.

 

This conference is an initiative of the Parent Involvement Committee, with the support of the OCDSB, the Special Education Advisory Committee, and the Ministry of Education's Parents Reaching Out Grant.

9:00 – 9:10 a.m.  Welcome and Introduction

​9:10 – 9:40 a.m.  ​Keynote Speaker: Dr. Jennifer Adams – Exit Outcomes: Characteristics and Skills for our learners

​9:40 –  9:50 a.m. ​Transition

9:50 – 10:50 a.m. ​Session 1 (select one workshop)

10:55 – 11:55 a.m.Session 2 (select one workshop)

12:00 – 1:00 p.m. ​Session 3 (select one workshop)

Please note:

No lunch will be provided;This is an environmentally friendly, Lug-A-Mug event. Water bottle refill stations available in school.
